Aquarius Lunation Lab 2/11/2021

This new moon at 22 degrees Aquarius conjuncts Mercury at 17 Aquarius, and squares Mars at 17 degrees Taurus. With Taurus representing stillness and sound, and Mars representing action, we can see that the action of stillness (also referred to as posture) could be a great description of Mars in Taurus. With Aquarius representing independent freedom, and Mercury representing communication, communicative freedom could be a primal manifestation of these energies. Uranus is also in Taurus at 7 degrees, there is an unpredictability pulsing through the Taurean realms as well. Saturn is also in Aquarius at 6 degrees, squaring Uranus in Taurus and providing another potent planetary energy waiting to be unleashed. Saturn can represent concrete manifestation in the physical world and Aquarius can indicate an unorthodox style in the airy realm of mind, Saturn in Aquarius suggests some hard mental work needing to be done in order to achieve concrete manifestation in the physical world, but that something lasting and unique can be created. This suggests that the core transformative powers offered us by these new moon energies centers around the charged interplay between nonverbal communication (posture/tone) and evolutionarily embodying communicative freedom. Jupiter and Venus also form a conjunction at 12 degrees Aquarius, giving expansive magnetic energy, perhaps some religious devotion to the Aquarian streams. Lastly, let us note the Aquarius is said to rule the ankles. Perhaps these energies can be accessed through that body region? . . .

Putting these aspects together, a practice distilled itself into my awareness. This practice will shift focus as the moon changes sign, but the core will stay the same.

First, check the sign the moon is in when you do this practice. That gives you the astrological archetype we are discovering a devotional dance unique to ourselves at the moment. If practicing today, we will approach the Aquarian sign.

  • Search through any media you wish, or get creative yourself, and find a sentence or phrase that expresses (not describes) Aquarius for you right now, or maybe an aspect of Aquarian energies you want to explore.
  • Begin walking and intoning the words. Find a rhythm of movement and breath that allows you to move comfortably without excess strain. Begin exploring how you walk, finding different rhythms, postures, gestures with the statement, engaging the moving body with the words.
  • Your tone probably already started to vary with the movements, but if it has not, go ahead and start exploring volume, pitch, pace, etc to find a way of saying the words that works with the words and movements.
  • Now you have it, start to use it. Explore the feeling of the energies invoked inside your body, feeling deeply into yourself, noticing how the world around you may now look different. If it feels right, stop and take a posture that acts as a temporary crystallization of the energy, intoning the words again and again. Explore how intoxicated you can get on these energies. When the ritual feels ready to calm down, just relax and be still as you let yourself be nothing, engaging the No-Form technique (more info here). Discharging the forces invoked may be the most important part, so take your time here.
  • When you feel ready, complete the discharge process by walking, trying to break up any remaining energies that just got crystallized by stretching your body through the gait pattern. Vary the moving and breathing cycles of your gait pattern to shake out and open up the last vestiges of this astrological invokation. Explore sounding also in your efforts to reset, to return to everyday consciousness.

If you do this once for each sign over the next lunar month, you will have discovered quick ways to invoke the force of each sign of the zodiac. Talk about a powerful bag of tricks! I would love to hear about any results you wish to communicate privately or publicly. Enjoy!

For the weekly Paratheatrical Polarity, I chose FAST-SLOW. Mars in Taurus tells us to move slow. Uranus in Taurus may feel that slow movement leaves us dripping with electricity, requiring freedom from earthly conceptions of duality. To become More free IN slowness, we must engage its’ opposite. Saturn squaring Uranus asks us to manifest this freedom, and repeat to make more concrete, maybe even finding one of those stacked plateaus known as a level of mastery.

“The greatest impediment to the human spirit results from the fact that the conception of God is fixed in a particular form, due to childish habit and imagination.” THE ESSENTIAL KABBALAH: The Heart of Jewish Mysticism p33

As humans, we are all born with innate transformative capacities we can discover the fruits of through hard work, grace, and ingenuity. Some of them are biologically similar between most, some are more unique. Each sign can be viewed as a potential state of being all of us can aspire to integrate into ourselves. Astrology can be viewed as a polytheism, worshiping at the altar of whichever form of “GOD” we are shown each day and week and month and and and. . . Allow us to implement childish wonder and imagination to evolve our means of embodying and deifying each of these forces in ourselves.
